The piano is one of the most powerful harmonic instruments, and as a pianist, 90 percent of our job is to play chords behind a melody. Whether you are accompanying yourself, a soloist, choir, or other instruments – finding the best chords for the melody is usually the pianist’s job.
In this course, I go through the eight essential stages to understanding any melody – the necessary things I think about before harmonizing any melody. Learning and mastering these eight steps will also strengthen your harmonic foundation to move into reharmonization as your skills develop.

I majored in Music in college have 2/3 if a Masters Degree. I've taught private lessons for 63 years. I am a composer and arranger for my students and I was thrilled with what I learned from this course. You know how you are reading a book that is so good that you can't put it down? Well I started the course last night & every time I woke up I did some more. I finished at 4am. Thanks Warren!!
I worked through this course in the space of one evening--on day one of purchasing a membership. Warren is a master-teacher as well as clearly an accomplished musician. Truly a WINNING combination! Many thanks. I can't wait to press on with other material on the website!
The course is well paced and thorough. It gives a step by step approach to understanding how harmony and chords support a melody. It is explained very clearly and gives the viewer opportunities to stop the video and experiment. Well done!
